Where is I Love Stars available?
I Love Stars is no longer available for purchase from the Mac App Store. If you already have it, you can use it indefinitely. However, for OS X version 10.10 Yosemite, you can purchase Stars, our improved version of the app that is optimized for the new operating system.
Does the legacy app "I Love Stars" function on OS X Yosemite?
Unfortunately, no. Yosemite changed some things that required us to rebuild the app.
Can I award ½ star ratings? Say 4.5 stars?
Yes, you can—but to do it, you must enable half-star ratings in both iTunes and in I Love Stars.
To enable half-star ratings in iTunes, follow these steps:
- Quit iTunes.
- Find and launch the Terminal utility, which is usually within the /Applications/Utilities/ directory, and enter the command:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes allow-half-stars -bool TRUE
- Then, Quit Terminal and relaunch iTunes to see the change take effect. To rate something a with half a star, click and then slide across the rating scale until a 1/2 star appears.
To disable the half-star option, repeat the process with the command below and relaunch iTunes:
defaults delete com.apple.iTunes allow-half-stars
Note: Disabling the half-star rating option in iTunes will show half-star ratings rounded down. So, for example, the ratings for all 4.5 star songs will be shown as 4 stars in iTunes
To enable (or disable) 1/2 star ratings in I Love Stars, open the Preferences, and make the appropriate settings change in the General section.
Can I use keyboard shortcuts with I Love Stars?
Yes, absolutely. Open the Preferences, and go to the Shortcuts section to record keyboard shortcuts to increase or decrease ratings, and to assign shortcuts for specific ratings.
Can I customize the way I Love Stars notifies me of unrated things?
Yes, you would the Alerts section of the Preferences to customize. The options include audible alerts, and visual queues in the menu bar. Here, you will also find a list of types of content to include/exclude in notifications for rating.
